Established in 1733, Savannah is Georgia’s oldest and third largest city. The “Hostess City of the South” offers up a mild climate, old world charm and atmosphere, a colorful and rich history, affordable housing, and a thriving economy.
The census of 2000 indicated there were 131,510 people residing in the city. In 2004, the U.S. Census Bureau reported the number as 129,800. The racial makeup of the city was 57.08% African American, 38.86% White, 1.52% Asian, 0.23% Native American, 0.07% Pacific Islander, 0.93% from other races, and 1.30% from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race was 2.23% of the population.
The median income for a household in the city was $29,038, and the median income for a family was $36,410. The per capita income for the city was $16,921.
